subject: Best Quit Smoking Methods - If You've Tried And Can't Quit, Try This [print this page] Kicking the smoking habit is not easyKicking the smoking habit is not easy. But just because it's difficult doesn't mean that you should stop trying. It's a fact that few people stop smoking the first time they try. That's why the best quit smoking methods that work for you may not be so effective for other people. The whole point is to not stop trying. If you've tried but can't seem to quit why not try something a little different?
Using the cold turkey is one of the most effective ways to quit smoking for some smokers. But for others, it fails miserably. If you are one of the "failures", here's a little something that may help you quit cold turkey.
A couple of days before you are planning to quit cold turkey, you might want to try adding some aversion therapy to the mix. Your goal for these two or three days prior to quitting is to become a smoking machine.
Set a goal of chain smoking your way through a few packs of smokes for a couple of consecutive days. Don't smoke your usual brand of cigarettes because you want your final experience of smoking to be as unpleasant as you can make it. So buy a different brand and a different type completely. So, switch light for regular, and regular for menthol.
For those last couple of days leading up to quitting, become a chain smoker. Light a new cigarette from the butt of the old one. Smoke each and every cigarette quickly so they taste hot and disgusting. Do this from the time you get up in the morning until the time you go to bed at night.
By the end of those days, you'll find that you may be quite ready to quit. When the urge to smoke comes upon you, think back to how bad smoking that much made you feel. Associating smoking with unpleasant memories may make the difference in quitting or not.
Cutting back works for some quitters but not so much for others. When it doesn't work, it may be because it's too easy to lose track of how many cigarettes you've already had and so you end up smoking more than you think. You can avoid this problem by counting out your cigarettes each day, putting them into a pack, and only smoking what you have.
Be sure to smoke all the cigarettes you've allowed yourself though, so you maintain a gradual decrease in the number of cigarettes you are smoking each day. Over time, keep cutting back one cigarette at a time, until finally there won't be anymore.
Another little tip is to eliminate those cigarettes you won't miss as much, first. For instance, if you smoke two cigarettes with your morning coffee, try only smoking one instead. You'll still be getting the mental satisfaction of a coffee and a cigarette, but you'll be smoking fewer cigarettes.
So if you've tried to quit over and over and failed, maybe you just need to try something different. Remember, the best quit smoking methods are the ones that work.
