GeForce GTX 480M & AVADirect's W880CU - a New Horizon for Gaming in Notebooks

Gaming in notebooks were always a problem due to the want of a proper graphics feature which is present in desktops but with the advent of the new GeForce 480M a mobile version suitable for the notebooks, an effort is made to fulfill this requirement. Graphics cards in desktops use a higher frequency and other features but you cannot use the same card in a notebook because of heat related problems. Nvidia has optimized the desktop cards a little bit to use it with notebooks and the same happened with the W880CU incorporated with 2 GB GDDR5 GTX 480M graphics card. The refresh cycle for a notebook is longer than a desktop and this makes 3D usage complicated for notebook users.

The DX 11 compatible, Fermi Architecture based GeForce 480M consumes huge amounts of power resulting a great deal of heat generation. To deal with this problem, the core voltage has been reduced by lessening in the clock speed as compared to its desktop counterpart. The benchmark test with the 3DMark Vantage v1.0.1 shows that it is a real performer against the Mobility HD 5870 and the Desktop HD 5850 in the Desktop Core i7 920. Experts are looking forward to games which will behave like itunes in the benchmark test using 8-way multithreading like the HandBrake transcoding video software. Tests with AVG are satisfactory as well and the File Compression tests utilizing the multithreaded environment show the usefulness of these notebooks.

Although it is proved that the GeForce 480M is faster than other single Graphical Processing Unit based graphics, it is still best used in the 1280x720 resolution when tested with the Crysis. Dx9 and DX 11 passed out fine for this mobile solution for graphics for 1920x1080 resolution.

So go for the AVADirect's W880CU with the above features and hope that gaming will not be a frustration in a notebook. There are many computer support service provider who can assist you in this aspect.
