subject: Advantages And Disadvantages Of Resistance Machines For Weight Training [print this page]

Body building is a field which incorporates the use of machines and they vary greatly from their respective manufactures. They are also distinct when compared to the purpose in which they are manufactured for. For instance, tread mills in a gym are relatively different from the treadmills manufactured for home gyms, either in size, shape or speed. Resistance machines and weight lifting gadgets are also varied in body building. What you find in a particular gym might be completely different from the other but the good thing is that, they all serve the same purpose.

Free weights are the most common used equipments in a gym. In fact, experts advise body builders, to at times give a blind eye to the free weights because they end up ruining ones program. Just visit the gym and you will notice that everyone gets in and starts lifting even before any warm. You will also notice that, people always crowd in the weight lifting area in a gym as if they are competing to see who the heaviest weight lifter is. But this is a big mistake and should be avoided completely. It is the worst blunder to even lift before warming the body up because you make yourself more prone to injuries.

Free weight training mainly involves the use of barbells, dumbbells, and many other types of equipment usually mobile in nature. One major reason why they are preferred largely by most body builders is because they are well diversified and can be used in both low and high density training programs. They therefore do not have major limitations for the trainee because he is left with many options from which he can choose from. Further to this, the free weight as used in training, allow great stability and an effective development of muscle due to the ability to increased stress to the respective muscle while still maintaining great control. One also has an advantage of choosing any posture of performing the exercise and maintaining it for the whole exercise as opposed to the fixed machines which are rigid and cannot be moved.

Resistant machines in body building are not very much used as the free weights but they serve a major purpose. They are designed specifically to provide and element of strain in the muscles through proving a pull in a range of motion. They provide a complete fixed range of motion for body builder in their respective exercises. This fixed range of motion may at times be beneficial in providing safety when dealing with the machine, but in the real sense, the fixed aspect makes the whole workout some how artificial. A predetermined force or stress on the muscles may also be disadvantageous because it might be too lenient for the muscles or too hard on them, causing injuries in the long run. Free weights and resistance machines may be taken as perfect for the entire workout of muscle groups but in the real sense, a body builder requires a well structured strategy to ensure that, the routine exercise is all inclusive for different muscle development.
