Fisherman's Wharf is one of the main tourist areas of San Francisco, California and is one of the major deals in the city not only for his ties to maritime history, but also by the amount of things to do there.

One of the most easily recognized buildings in Fisherman's Wharf is the Maritime Museum, known almost as much for its form of construction of vessels for the exhibitions that document San Francisco's maritime past. Anyone who is even slightly interested in boats or history will enjoy a stroll through this museum.

For a sample of a different kind of history, check out the original Ghirardellis premises are located in the Wharf area. Although the world-class chocolate is no longer here, you can see where the story began to Ghirardelli and buy some chocolate there.

Some of the major attractions of Fisherman's Wharf is located on the docks. In particular vibrant Pier 45, where among other things you can buy some fresh seafood cooked right on the pier, visit Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, and if you're early enough, the catch of fishermen taking their boats in the ocean. Pier 49 may be a great place for tourists, but its still a working pier for local fishermen.

Pier 39 is another place you'll find entertainment and attractions such as the Board of Riptide and ride Turbo making it particularly good to visit if you've got children in your group. For a little excitement but no less impressive least visit the Aquarium of the Bay and watch the sea life that surrounds you as you walk through the cave with a glass roof. Finish your visit to Pier 39 with a walk in the beautiful two-story carousel in San Francisco.

No visit to Fisherman's Wharf would be complete without taking a trip to the sea in the bay, and so must be Pier 41 on your itinerary as this is the starting point for most boat trips around the bay including those aimed at Alcatraz.

San Francisco is full of wonderful things to see and visit and Fisherman's Wharf is one of them! Be sure to make a kind of itinerary before leaving home or you miss something you really want to see.
