subject: Event Planning- What's Your Theme? [print this page]

When planning an event for the first time, it can be both exciting and overwhelming all at the same time. There are so many things that are going to be going through your head, so many ideas that end up swirling around, that you might not be sure of how to even start planning your event.

Before you allow yourself to feel overwhelmed about planning your event, you want to make sure that you ease yourself into thinking constructively about what theme you are looking to create.

Here are some event planning tips to help you with your theme:

1. First of all, you have to know what your budget is. You don't want to fall in love with an expensive theme to your event and then find out that you don't have enough money to pull it off. For example, you might not want to have a luxury theme if you are on an economy budget.

2. You have to know what overall feeling you want your event to have. If you want to plan an event that will make people feel happy and carefree, you probably do not want to choose a theme that is depressing and makes people feel uptight. Emotions can be everything when it comes to pulling off the perfect event.

3. Who is going to be there? You want to make sure that your event ties into the audience that is going to be there. Nothing would be more shocking than to pick a theme that would work for young adults, if the majority of your audience is going to be above the age of 50.

4. Can you tie the food with your theme? An example of this could be planning an event based on a Southwestern theme where you have Southwestern foods available at a buffet or something. Choosing the right food to tie into your overall theme could help you to pull of the perfect event that people will talk about for years to come.
