Going beyond listening. What does it mean? It's kind of what my highschool teachers for advanced classes would always tell us to do when they gave us new reading material. Active reading. You don't just read the book. You digest it. You write down higher level questions- questions that can only be answered from inferring from the text, not directly quoting, or questions that are universal and deal with the themes found in the books. You really boil the book down to it's basic components, analyzing them in context of how they interact with the book as a whole. The problem is, as a social media marketing term, it is undefined. There is no set system that goes beyond listening.
Listening alone is enough for some companies. Collecting and interpreting the data to understand how to be competitive in the now is no easy task. To go beyond that? How is it possible to drive the stored energy in the tool further at the same or faster speed that business moves today? You just can't and as with most things there are various levels to which that extends. Smaller companies don't have the money or time or manpower to learn how to be competitive. They need to be competitive out the gate. Large companies have large enemies, and the step back a fruitless venture into learning how to be competitive could be costly. They need that info right now.
I've been through plenty of sites that promised a delivery on going "beyond listening". All but maybe one of them were plastered with ads for this and ads for that. I was lambasted with advertisements so much that I knew that none of these sites could deliver. The problem is that at this time, no one has clearly defined going beyond listening. No one has really yet perfected "listening" yet. To go beyond it, when it's unfinished, is impossible.
