This resulted in tobacco conquering the users with a certain kind of secret pleasure. Any person who had once become addicted to it could hardly restrain himself from going for a fag. During that period, cigarette-rolling machines were invented. This made the popularity of tobacco products go even high and was regarded by many as an additional cause for the forthcoming tragedy. One of the greatest dangers seemed to come from easy access to tobacco and the widespread popularity of these rolled cigarettes. The number grew, as more and more young men started smoking cigarettes. It was startling for the parents as well as the school authorities because the smoking population consisted of not only students, but even school going people in their teens. They would casually indulge in this dangerous habit, often doing it in groups. It was considered very fashionable to inhale the smoke. The smoker would inhale the smoke, hold it in the bodys air passages for a little time, and would then blow it out through his nostrils and mouth. Actually, the smoker who draws the biggest amount of smoke and who keeps it long inside the air passages undoubtedly would be taking in the largest of the doses. From the early days of its use itself, tobacco had been suspected as a drug that had a high degree of abuse potential and the culprit was said to be a chemical substance called nicotine.
