7 additional Tips for designing a successful web site:
The main page of your site should load in 8 seconds or less with a 56k modem. Size and complexity of the content are the culprits. This excellent article helps us understand why your potential customer will not be willing to wait for you
Include META tags in the HTML of each page of your site. They enable the search engines to determine what keywords are relevant to a specific site. 80% of all web site traffic originates from 8 major search engines. Selecting your background and text colors can be tricky. Backgrounds that are busy make text difficult to read thus, drawing the attention away from the text. Consistency is so important, and should work in unison with your background theme on each and every page. Colors affect your mood. Bright colors such as red, yellow and orange, cause you to become more cheerful or happy. Whereas, colors such as blue and purple and green have a calming effect. Dark colors such as brown and black have a depressing effect and should be used sparingly.
When color is used correctly, it can add impact and clarity to your message and highlight important points. Color emphasizes, highlights, and leads your visitor's eye to important points or links. The most important element I've learned about color is that it symbolizes and triggers emotions and memories. I'm certainly not an expert on this topic, but have found this site to be of tremendous help; http://websitetips.com/color/
Let your visitors know exactly what you're offering on your main page. Afterall, they're visiting your site for a specific purpose. They want that "something" your site offers: information, a product or service.
In Part 1 I talked about credibility and including your contact information. Try to reply to all comments and suggestions within 48 hours. Your goal must be to promote good business relationships. As we all know business relationships are the Key To Your Success.
Try to have your site free of spelling errors, and make sure your images and links are in proper working order. The key to representing your self professionally is found in the written word.
This last tip goes without saying adding new content to your site is vital! Why? It'll give your visitors a reason to keep coming back. Provide your audience with quality, informative articles. Everyone wants to get something for free. Design a quality e-book to give to your visitors, design it with your website in mind.
E-books are an embodiment of you, and allow you to write about your passion. If you're writing about your true passion then you shouldn't have any trouble coming up with something to write about. For further information on e-books, I recommend the article, "How to Create an E-book and Drive Massive Traffic to Your Site by Giving It Away."http://www.web-source.net/ebook_creation.htm
