Learning a foreign language takes timeLearning a foreign language takes time. That's the world of the Internet where small children often know more than their parents. To understand the Internet, the first you that needs to be done is to understand its language. The invention and overwhelming impact of the Net has created a whole new language and understanding that language makes it a lot easier to be successful on the Net.

One term you hear an awful lot on the web is bandwidth. Bandwidth in lay terms just relates to the amount of space that a website is allowed to fill. Some web hosting services offer a set amount of bandwidth and others offer you the option to add increments of bandwidth at an increase in cost to you. The amount of space that your web server will allot for your website will vary which is why it is important to shop around.

HTML is not a sports organization. It's one of dozens of Internet abbreviations that can be confusing but are vital to know in order to become Internet savvy. HTML is an abbreviation for hypertext markup language, which probably doesn't clear things up very well. What it means is the language of the Web and the format that search engines, browsers, and computers use. Still confusing? Of course, but it's just an abbreviation that translates all Web information and it goes through HTML

NOC is another abbreviation that is commonly seen and used on the web. NOC is short for network operations center and is essentially the place in which the web server and their technical support work out of. This home base is where actual server storage physically occurs.

Those are only three of the many terms that you need to know to navigate the Web and the building of your Web site. Don't try to learn it all in one day. Every time you learn a new term it usually relates to another term that sounds like gibberish. It might be best to get some professional help and most computer stores offer it, but the Web itself has all the information you need to learn even more about the Web. Just search for any term you don't understand and it's all out there. Just be patient and remember that, with the Web growing by the hour, there will be terms out there tomorrow that aren't out there today. Make sure you fully understand what you are getting into before signing on with a Web host and, once you are comfortable with the basic language, you are on your way to building a successful Web business.
