How could anyone define what a successful website looks like? I'll answer that by saying stating the obvious, it should be user friendly for both the search engines and your target audience. Do you, like me, want to truly want to engage, inspire and educate your audience? I hope so. Learning how to do this is really quite simple. Here are seven tips that'll help you become more effective in attracting your target audience and keep them there interacting with your website.
Design your website to be compatible with the largest number of viewers. Set the resolution to 1024768.
What make pages load slowly? It's best to avoid the following; large graphic files, pictures, and fancy applets.
Optimize your graphics so they load quickly.
Make your page easy to read and find information by using bullets, headlines that are descriptive, and sub text
Hyperlinks should be short; try to use keywords whenever possible.
Two clicks or less is all it should take to sell something to your prospect.
Lend credibility to your site by providing your website address, email, name, and physical address. Makes visitors feel at home.
Website Navigation
Your website should be easy to navigate. Personally, I love to use embedded links. An embedded link can appear anywhere you link text within the body of a particular page to another page or even another website. Embedded links stand out by both color and appear underlined. It's the best style of navigation to use, and it doesn't distract your visitors as they read your content in a linear fashion. In addition, tour links should be intuitively placed. Links will be opening up to new windows thus keeping the main website loaded in your visitor's browser.
Other options include
Breadcrumb trail; Organize large amounts of info
Left/top/pop-up navigation bar; most commonly used, and usable
Tab navigation; used when breaking into a few primary categories
Site map; One stop shopping solution for everything your site has to offer
Try to figure out what works best for you and is in your prospects best interest. There are many other areas that need to be discussed in terms of your site's background, and font styles. Stay tuned, I'll be including Successful Website(s) Turn Your Business into a Cash Cow? Part 2shortly.
