Toshiba Satellite C655-S5119 15.6-Inch Laptop

Another review from somebody who seemingly paid an excessive amount of for this notebook, an additional $70 to be precise. Bought it as a present for somebody who will not have a lot of use for the missing webcam and microphone. The $20 gift certificate helps a little; $40-$50 would are additional applicable. Anyways, the review:

Pros: Full-sized keyboard + keypad features a nice feel. The touchpad works higher than expected, particularly after you enable the "glide" feature within the Toshiba driver. Screen is bright and crisp and appears to show HD content well as long as you do not sit too so much to either aspect. The speakers sound okay once the boosters and equalizer are enabled. Adding an additional 1GB of RAM bumped the Windows expertise Index up to four.5 (it's 4.2 out of the box). The textured surfaces are a welcome improvement over a number of the high gloss finishes one sees on competing brands. making the System Restore discs was fairly simple (took four four.7GB DVD-R discs; no coasters).

Cons: solely 2 USB ports and each are on the left-hand aspect even supposing the majority can use a mouse on the right-hand aspect. The optical drive sits thus near the ability jack that it usually catches on the ability twine when ejecting. The FN key graphics are gray (hard to see) and also the volume controls are during a weird place (FN+3/4). No LED on the Ethernet jack thus it's arduous to inform if you have got a live affiliation. Lack of color-coding on the audio IN/OUT jacks build it arduous to spot that is that. No physical switch for turning off WiFi. Deciphering that Toshiba apps were commerce-ware that would be removed was a challenge.

Linux: recent versions of Ubuntu 64bit appear to figure fine.
