subject: Am I Going To Be Contacted If My Shipment Is Delayed? [print this page]

Delays in shipping can be disastrousDelays in shipping can be disastrous. There is now way around that. When your shipment is delayed it ends up costing you money in a variety of ways, but in many ways the most insidious of these can be the customer dissatisfaction that is created when their shipments are late. This is why a high quality Houston courier service will usually contact their clients directly if there is any kind of delay in their shipments, that way you can take whatever measures you need to try and mitigate the damage that the delay causes to your business.

When you're trying to keep a customer happy, one of the things that this always depends on is getting their packages to them on time. If there is going to be a delay though, it is only going to make them more upset if they don't know about. Therefore, if the courier company contacts you when there is going to be a delay, you at least have the option to contact your customer directly and try and keep them satisfied in any way that you can.

Whether or not a courier company contacts you when there is a delay in your shipment is going to depend on what exactly happens when the delay occurs. Small delays aren't something that they usually bother contacting clients with directly. The number of clients they would have to contact to compensate for all minor delays would simply be much too time consuming.

If a delay is going to cause your package to be hours or days late though, your courier company should contact you and let you know what's happening. They will usually either call or email to let you know what kind of delay has happened, and may also give you insight into the new ETA on your package if they have that information available.

Smaller delays you may be able to find out about on your own through the tracking systems that couriers have put in place in order to allow you to have more hands on monitoring of your shipments. GPS tracking is the way that most couriers do this, and you can usually access this online. With real time updates, you should be able to see if there is even a small delay in your package, and therefore be able to update your client if necessary, in whatever way you feel is most appropriate based on your clients requests.
