Astrology is the study of the stars of the persons. Astrology word derive from the Greek word astron, that means star' and logos means word', we can interpret astrology to mean the language of the stars; a language that contains the idea of an organized body of knowledge of the universe, along with the stars speak to us. Astrology seeks the meaning of the influences of the planets, stars and other phenomena in our daily lives.
Indian or Jyotish: Jyotish is a Sanskrit word which derives from jyotis which means light' but in plural also it means "the heavenly bodies, planets and stars". So Jyotisha means the "science of heavenly bodies". It is the Hindu system of Astrology which describes the binding between the inner and outer world. If we talk about Western Astrology Jyotisha is a connection between the macrocosm and the microcosm. There is a difference between macrocosm and microcosm is that macrocosm is the universe where as microcosm is life on earth.
The History of Astrology
The two terms that is astrology and astronomy are almost same, astrology actually predates astronomy. The history of astrology doesn't follow one particular timeline, but there are three independent branches that is Western Astrology, Indian or Jyotish Astrology and Chinese or East Asian Astrology.
Chinese or East Asian Astrology
Chinese Astrology is originated in China in the third millennium. In China Astrology became combined with the Chinese practice that is known as Feng shui. According to Chinese Astrology, destiny of a person can be determined by the positions of the planets, Sun, Moon, comets and the person's birth time and Zodiac Sign at the person's birth. Western Astrology is based on the months of the year; Chinese Astrology is based on twelve year lunar cycle.
Western Astrology
Western Astrology is the type of Astrology most popular in Western Countries. Western Astrology is founded by Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos in the 2nd century AD and was believed to be first practiced among the ancient Babylonians in the third millennium.
According to Western Astrology, the horoscope of a person is made on the basis of time of the birth. The Zodiac sign represents the sign of the Zodiac that the Sun passed at the birth time of a person. The Sun rules the personality, ego and willpower of a person.
There are nine planets that affect the life of individual.
Sun: The position of Sun gives understanding about the physical representation of a person. It represents the basic behavioral traits of a person. It represents wealthy people or those people who are connected with church, temple or religious institution.
Moon: It is beneficial to those who born in ascending moon cycle. A strong moon in chart indicates a happy metal state, emotional strength, makes for good relations and love for others.
Mercury: Mercury is a planet of logic therefore, powerful Mercury positions leads to a good reasoning ability and grasping power. It indicates professional like Astrologer, Mathematicians etc.

Jupiter: It is the largest planet of the solar system and is associated with the expansion, growth and opportunity.
Saturn: It is dry and cool planet. It doesn't make things easy; it rather commands to get to work. Discipline and responsibility are important to this planet.
Uranus: Uranue leads to sudden changes and increase stress.
Neptune: Dreams, illusions, deceptions, arts.

Horoscopic Astrology
Horoscopic Astrology is developed by Hellenistic Egypt. It is basically a visual representation of the heavens. It is derived from the Greek word, horoskopos, which means "a look at the hours". The visual representation usually takes the form of a chart and shows the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets at the time of the particular event, like the birth of a person.
Horoscopic Astrology is divided into the four main categories that include Natal, Mundane, Electional and Horary.
