First impressions always count, so when you do attend your annual corporate Christmas party it is vital that you make that intended impression. One of the ways is through what you wear. Keeping it smart, simple but fun will certainly show your professional sheen without being boring. Avoid under dressing and over dressing this can be done by asking the boss prior to the event the sort of attire expected, or consulting with everyone else what they are going to wear.
Consult with the boss if there is anything else expected. Some corporations complete a secret Santa, so get informed about any such activity; otherwise you may look foolish turning up on the night without a gift to exchange.
Corporate Christmas parties are social events, therefore you will need to socialize. However, this does not mean you do have to chat with everyone, nor ignore loads of people. Chat with the people you know if you are too shy to go up to anyone else. Just make sure you don't segregate yourself from everyone as this can look really anti-social. Otherwise feel free to chat with everyone, but always be polite this is the number one rule at corporate Christmas parties and must not be broken. Avoid the likes of gossip too as being associate with a gossipy crowd can get you into trouble or simply disliked. Remember they are likely to gossip about you too, so try not to trust them too much.
Although it may seem great that all the drinks are on the house, it may not be so good for your reputation nor the morning afterwards. Stick to drinks that you can personally handle and try not to have too many of them. Be responsible but still enjoy the night and you will find that the night has been a success!
Avoid eating too much as well. Even though it is tempting to try everything on the menu, you may regret it later on. Eating too much can make you feel ill, bloated (you don't want to look bloated in your outfit) and often does not bode well with alcohol. Have a good sized portion and try not to take any of the extra food home as this looks unsophisticated!
