Kawasaki Ninja
Ninja has been one of the most successful models to have been rolled out of the stables of Kawasaki. In fact, if there is one bike that people identify with Kawasaki, its the Ninja. Launched first in 1984, the Ninja has come a long way in its 25+ year history.
Kawasaki bikes had been built on 2 valve, 4 cylinder engines and all through the 70s Kawasaki was marketing these bikes. In the 80s, however, Kawasaki was loosing its sheen and needed something exceptional to tap the fast evolving super-bike market. Owing to the need of the hour, Kawasaki launched the first model of Ninja- the GPZ900R- in 1984. The bike boasts of a 16 valve 4 cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine. The 908 cc engine is capable of churning out a hefty 115 bhp. The bike could do speeds of up to 250 KM/H and this quickly helped the bike in climbing through the record books. Very soon, the bike became the fastest production bike to have ever been launched.

A year after the launch of its predecessor, the GPZ600R was launched as aNinjain the North American continent. The year also saw the rise of the 600cc engine segment. The bike was designed in a never-before seen way and was good value for money on the whole. The excellent brakes, amazing suspension and a killer engine all made it an extremely popular bike in the US market. Like most Kawasaki bikes, this bike made use of exceptional aerodynamics and the engineers made a conscious effort to tame the weight down. This resulted in a bike that challenged motorcycles of considerably more powerful engines. Such performance set benchmarks for middleweight bikes for years to come.
With the launch of the ZX series in 1988, came the era of aluminum frames and lightweight bikes topping 250 km/hr levels with ease. The ZX-10 weighed 225 KG and its top speed was pegged at 270 km/hr. With the launch of the ZXR750 in 1988-89, Kawasaki stormed into the professional motorcycle racing world. Scott Russel won two superbike championships in 1992 on his ZXR750 and thus Kawasaki had arrived with Ninja in all the super bike segments.

The ZX11'e engine was tweaked to churn out 147 PS and was the first even model in the world to feature the 320 KM/HR speedo. The bike remained the king of speed for years to come and is considered by many people as one of the most thrilling bikes to have ever been produced. With this model, a new segment of bikes was born- theflagship segment as it later came to be known. Over the years to follow, the ZX models evolved and have maintained Ninja's brand image of being the "king of speed". The ZX 10R weighs in at a mere 170 KG and churns out 175 PS. The bike delivers nparalleled torque and had been conferred the title of the "master bike". Similar modifications have run through the 600cc segment as well over the years. The latest bike to have been rolled out with the Ninja batch is the ZX-6R (600 cm3). The bike has Showa suspension, better ergonomics, centralized weight and is all set to take on the tracks with a bang.
