The best advice on proper measuring will always be given by the manufacturer, as sizes can differ depending on the manufacturer. Sizes often overlap, so be careful and make sure the shoe fits perfectly baby's feet. There are actually three kind of baby shoes, depending on their age and ability to crib, crawl or walk. Baby shoes size by age

Crib Shoes

Crib shoes are recommended for children for up to 6 month old. At this age, babies are normally in the crib, so there is no need for any solid construction in the shoes. Normally crib shoes are made of soft fabrics and their size varies from 00 to 2. Normally preemies need the 00 size of shoes, which changes to size 1, when the foot size reaches 3 9/16 inches and to size 2, when it reaches 3 7/8 inches.

Crawling Shoes

This kind of shoes is best for babies that begin to crawl and pull to standing on their own. Crawling shoes are soft-soled and allow babies to be active while wearing them. Normally crawling shoes will be used by babies from 6 to 9 month old. This category of shoes will come in sizes from 0 to 3. Size 3 will measure 4 inches. However before buying shoes a proper measurement should be performed.

Walking Shoes

After the age of 9 month, a normally grown baby will need walking shoes, as they begin to walk, run, and jump. This kind of shoes assures a rigid support for the foot, still being quite easy to wear and not too heavy. From 9 month to 3 years, baby's feet should be measured every two month and use proper sized shoes. Walking shoes varies from 2 to 8 in size. Sizes can vary, depending on the manufacturer, so best choice would be to try them on. If there is no such possibility (if you order baby shoes from the internet), read carefully the sizing guidelines, generally provided by manufacturer.
