Jack Johnson was born in Hawaii. At 17, he became the youngest surfer to climb in the final of the Pipe. The following year he joined the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he earned a degree in film. He participated in the film All For One or The Show. Jack then returned to Hawaii to film Thicker Than Water.
Giving up his pro career he devoted himself to music, and he released Brushfire Fairytales in September 2002. A year later, he signed On and On. Followed by In Between Dreams in 2005 and Curious George in 2006. We later find him on the soundtrack of the film A Brokedown Melody. In 2008, he is back with a new album called Sleep Through The Static.
It's been a while since the eldest son of Bob Marley had not talked of Jack Johnson. Almost three years after the release of the album Love Is My Religion, which earned him get the Grammy for best reggae album in 2007, the Jamaican musician released on June 22 next his third solo album.
It did not take severity of this expectation, since this new song, entitled Family Time, provided its share of surprises and good collaborations. Of the 11 tracks present, we can indeed find Ziggy Marley duets with Jack Johnson, Paul Simon, Toots, Wille Nelson and Rita Marley and Jamie Lee Curtis.
We could not probably expect something different from a musician who personifies the concept better than any other guy's cool: in this case, a cool evening. Signed Jack Johnson, of course.
It is thus expected, and it was well last month. For his performance in Montreal, Johnson was neither surprising nor disappointing. Pretty much effective in the genre, with rhythms that tickle the feet and a string of successes easily absorbed in the soft breeze of a night.
