The causes of diabetes are still unknown. There are certain factors responsible for diabetes. These factors are known as risk factors and an individual must overcome them to prevent.

Hereditary is one of the causes of diabetes. Parents passes diabetes to their children. Parents who are diabetic should control their blood sugar level to control diabetes and not passing the disease to their children. About 12 percent of the people who are diabetic are due to hereditary reasons.

One of the main cause of diabetes is Obesity. Obese people are prone to diabetes. Type 2 diabetes main cause is Obesity. Diabetes is of two types Type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is seen more in youngsters and is known as early onset diabetes or Insulin dependent diabetes, since insulin is a must dose in type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is generally seen to people who are above 40 years of age and plus. Obesity is the main cause of diabetes over here. Insulin is not a must dose. So it known by the names adult onset diabetes or non insulin dependent diabetes.

Diet plays an important role. Diet should be well balanced in nutrition. There should be cut down in intake of carbohydrates, fats, proteins. In place of simple carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates need to be taken as they do not easily get converted to glucose. Diabetic people need to take food content rich in fiber. Examples of food content rich in fiber are carrot, broccoli, beans, peas, apple, apricot, dates, raisins.

People who are suffering with diabetes need to quit smoking. Smoking not only increase diabetes. It can be the cause for diabetes.

Diagnosis of diabetes is generally done by two tests. Urine and blood tests. Blood test is done in three different ways in all the three ways the blood glucose level is higher and above normal expected range. And urine test shows samples of glucoses in urine.

People who are diabetic need to take part in physical exercises as changes in lifestyle are one of the causes of diabetes. Stagnated or sedentary kind of lifestyle leads to diabetes. Exercises like running, skipping, and swimming are good.
