subject: Chiropractor Minneapolis Mn | Arthritis Is Not A Natural Progression [print this page] My grandmother used to make my Halloween costume every year on her sewing machine. She made the dresses for my sisters and me when we were in our aunt's wedding. She made everything from pillowcases to doll clothes, but she can't sew much anymore because her hands have been claimed by arthritis.
Her Age Shows in Her Hands -
My grandmother is one of my favorite people in the world, and I don't normally think of her as an old woman, although she's in her seventies now. She's active at her church, cooks and delivers Mobile Meals to elderly people who aren't so fortunate, and plays bridge once a week with her bridge club. But one sure indication of her age is her hands, twisted and deformed by arthritis. Her knuckles are painfully swollen, and she has no feeling in her fingertips.
Arthritis Can Be Prevented -
Watching the degeneration of my grandmother's hands, I assumed that this was a natural progression, a malady from which we could all more or less expect to suffer as we got older. Then I started seeing a chiropractor several years ago, and there I learned that arthritis does not have to be an obligatory challenge of age, that the disease has its roots in the spinal degeneration that we all experience to some extent but that can be lessened or even prevented to a large degree by regular chiropractic care.
Loss of Youth Shouldn't Mean Loss of Hope -
Gerontologists (scientists who study the process of aging) have come to believe that people should regularly live to be a hundred or even a hundred and twenty. It's surprising to them that so few of us actually do. A cause of such longevity or lack thereof has not been pinpointed; some centenarians still smoke and drink, while others avoid tobacco and alcohol like the plague. Some are vegetarians, and some live on red meat. It's hard to say.
However, I would bet that all of those who have reached such an age all have at least one thing in common: spirit, hope, a continuing zest for life. Like my grandmother, they maintain interest in their community, their family, their life. Maybe some of them have discovered how chiropractic care can improve their health. Some of them have probably also discovered that physical activity can help.
In one study, nine seniors between 86 and 96 worked out with a weight machine three times weekly and thus increased the strength in their quadriceps by as much as 174 percent. This goes to show that you should never assume that your body is simply on the decline and that nothing can be done to stop it.
If you already suffer from arthritis, look into physical therapy and chiropractic care before submitting to taking 10 kinds of pill a day-or even one kind. If you are already on medication, it's still not too late to find alternatives. The side effects of your pills could actually shorten your life rather than extend it.
