Signs That Your Marriage May Be Over - What to Look For and What to Do

So, how do you know when your marriage is over? You might think you are beginning to see tell-tale signs, and wonder what you can do to prevent things from getting worse. Or, did the situation sneak up on you, and before you realized it, your marriage had crumbled? What are the reasons marriages fail, how can you recognize the signs, and what can you do about it?

1. Communication issues

A good marriage requires a lot of communication. If there's no communication, there's generally no trust. And if there's no trust, then there's usually a lack of commitment to each other. Without commitment... well, there's not much of a marriage. Love may have been what brought you together, but it's communication that's going to keep you together. You're going to have to talk about more than your daily schedule and what's for dinner if you want to communicate effectively. Try to rediscover that strong connection that you had with each other back at the beginning of your marriage.

2. In a successful marriage, both people continue to grow, both as individuals, and together as a couple. Another way that you can know when your marriage is over is when you realize that you've not only stopped being happy, but you've also stopped being happy for your spouse as well. Instead of supporting each other, you might realize that what you're really doing is competing with each other. Unless you can act fast and work these issues through with your partner, you're going down a path that could end your marriage.

If you are able to recognize these signs, and work out a plan to work together to try to save your marriage, you might be able to turn these events around. But, realize that it's going to take work and commitment on the part of both you and your spouse.
