subject: Getting Your Word Out Every Day Of The Week With Promotional Wall Calendars [print this page]

I have traveled a lot and seen some of the most beautiful places in the country, Most of these places have gift shops, and all gift shops have a few items in common. One of the most popular items I've taken notice of is the promotional wall calendar, especially at the national parks. People line up to buy them, and it makes a lot of sense to me. Most of these calendars are adorned with the best photos of the most scenic features of the attraction; who wouldn't want to see them? Invariably, the name, address, and logo of the gift shop or park association is situated so that no matter how many months are flipped by, that portion is always visible.

I fancy myself a bit of an observer of the human condition, and noticing the popularity of promotional wall calendars, I decided to see where else I could find them. It didn't count if they were in the place of business that was being promoted; I wanted to see how many I could find for other businesses or entities in homes and in the public.

To my surprise, one of the first places I spotted one was in my own home. It was a beautiful calendar, exhibiting traditional Chinese art, courtesy of an international bank. I don't know who hung it up, and I don't have an account at that bank, but anyone who walks into my home for the next several months will be seeing a commercial for that bank. Do I mind? Absolutely not. It's beautiful, functional, and was probably free, so they can promote their business all they want.

I also noticed a calendar from my children's school on my refrigerator. This one has the name of the school prominently displayed with important information superimposed on different days of the week. Not only do I see what day it is every time I go to get something out of the fridge, I also see things that I need to remember for their school as well as a constant reminder of what school that is. Since they go to the same school now, it isn't too hard to remember, but once the oldest heads to junior high, I'm sure that knowing which school is which for which event will come in handy.

Needless to say, I started noticing these calendars everywhere. Restaurants advertised at lumberyards, lumberyards promoted at coffee shops, hospitals showcased at the auto mechanics. Regardless of the business, someone else was getting their word in via beautiful promotional wall calendars. I think I need to get my own, just to stay in the game.
