WHAT'S IN A WORD
ALL UNDERLINED WORDS CAN BE FOUND IN THE WORD IMPATIENTLY
The bible says we should wait patiently for the Lord. Some did and some did not. The Israelites grew impatient as they traveled from Egypt to the Promised Land. In Psalm 40:1 David said: "I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry."
Sarah, thinking she was barren, was not patient long enough. She did not know what God's plan would entail and had her husband Abraham sleep with the servant girl Hagar.God promised Sarah a child by Abraham and at the age of 90, she had Isaac.
Patience, I know mine and probably yours, are tested at times. When the light turns green and the car ahead doesn't move, do you wait patiently or do you lean on the horn? The driver in front of you in the fast lane is going five miles an hour under the speed limit. Still patient? Do you drive a mile or more out of the way to avoid sitting in traffic? Do you allow ample distance between you and the car ahead, or do you tail gate waiting for a chance to pass? Ask yourself, what's the worst thing that can happen if you're late? Maybe because of God's plan, you were meant to be delayed. Our patience is also tested while standing in a long line at the grocery store, or waiting for something to come by snail mail or email. As a kid, Christmas, birthdays, and summer vacations couldn't come soon enough. The right pitch to cross home plate, a certain item to go on sale, the weather to clear so you can paint, waiting for your neatly typed resume' and degree from Yale to provide a career, the trip you're planning to Italy. These are also things we wait patiently for and will happen in a timely manner according to the will of God. Moving forward on our own might seem petty, but could have disastrous consequences. In Ecclesiastes 3 we're told: For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time for war and a time for peace.
2 Peter 3:8 says: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day; so thinking about the second coming of Jesus Christ: The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
God is not some alien entity from another planet. He is our heavenly Father and His Son Jesus is there for us anytime we call upon His name. Do you have an intimate relationship with Him?
Do you have a spouse, father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, friend, neighbor or co-worker who hasn't accepted Jesus Christ as their savior? Keep praying for them and wait patiently for the Lord to act.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7
God has a sense of humor and if you want to make Him laugh----just tell Him your plan.
