subject: Content Is (Still) King [print this page] Content Is (Still) King Content Is (Still) King
Make no mistake content was and still is king when it comes to getting high organic search rankings on the major search engines. A lot of Webmasters insist that all you have to do to rank well is get a ton of backlinks pointing to your site's page and your pages will get high rankings. If that were true then there wouldn't be so many Web pages in the Google, Yahoo and Bing SERPS that have untold thousands of backlinks and yet they have poor rankings in the SERPS. Without a lot of quality, relevant content to link to, then all the links in the world won't matter much.
Google especially ranks sites well that have become *authority* sites in their particular niche market. To become an authority, your site has to have a lot of quality, relevant information in its pages about your particular product or service. One way to build up a lot of quality content is to write an article for your site everyday if possible, or at least a couple of times a week. You can also add a blog to your Website and try to post to it as often as time permits. Once a day would be great; but 2-3 x per week will work also. If your Webmaster hasn't already done so, have him create a FAQS (frequently asked questions) section to your site. Also have him/her add a Glossary to your Website with all the pertinent words to your particular niche market.
It's important to remember that when adding new content to your Web pages that you fully optimize those new content pages for the particular keyword/keyphrases that that page is about. So as with the other pages to your Website, have a good keyword rich Title tag. Next, include that article's main keywords in the Meta description and Meta keywords tags. Next, include the main keywords in Header tags (
,
, etc.) Include an image with your articles and place an ALT tag to the image that is descriptive of the image and that also has your main keywords in the ALT tag. Don't forget to include the main kewords in a hyperlink to another relevant page on your Website. You can also bold to highlight your main keyword. It's important not to keyword stuff in your content, keep the kwd (keyword density) around 2-4% for Google and a little higher for Yahoo and Bing.
Always be sure to write your articles using your own wording. It's ok to get ideas about what to write about from other Web pages; but then after reading and doing some research, place the ideas into your article into your own words. This will avoid any duplicate content issues with any of the major search engines, especially with Google. To further SEO your articles or blog posts, it's a really good idea to use stemming with your main keywords. Stemming is simply using the various forms of a given word. For example if your main keyword was "synergy", then you could use synergy, synergies, synergist, synergism, and so on. You can also use synonyms. So for the keyword synergy, you could use words like interaction, cooperation, collaboration, etc.
Last, but not least, make your articles as interesting as possible. And don't forget to share your latest articles or blog posts with the various social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Also, don't forget to ping the various search engines and site that your blog has just been updated. So there you have it, add new content preferably daily, but at least weekly and this will keep the search engine robots/spiders crawling your site's pages on a regular basis and in time your rankings will start to improve also as all those new pages and posts will have links pointing back to your home page and that is a good thing.
