Adultery: Reasons and Reality

Historically, sex outside of marriage, sexual intercourse before marriage, children born outside of marriage has been considered unacceptable by the world's major religions and could result in legal consequences or social punishment.

In today's world of civilized society, marriage is not a requirement for having children, and children born outside of marriage do not suffer any legal disadvantages or social stigma. According to the US National Center for Health Statistics, in 1992 more than 30 percent of births were to unmarried women, and by2006 that number had risen to almost 40 percent. On the other hand, many married couples make a decision not to have children making childfree culture growing every year. The progress of modern medicine with ability to perform artificial insemination made sexual intercourse unnecessary from conception point of view.

Today modern society of Western civilization completely accepted sex before marriage never requiring virginity or abstinence to be legal or social prerequisite for marriage union.

The only aspect of sexual relationships that has not changed from ancient civilization is extramarital relationships or adultery. In modern world, even though extramarital affairs are not considered a criminal offense, they are measured as unacceptable by social standards and canons. Although social acceptance in modern world has increased, American society still pretends that puritan dogmas of pilgrims are made from stone and cannot be changed.

Extramarital affairs are identified as relationships outside of marriage when a married personhas sexual relations with someone other than their spouse. These types of relationships can stretch from one-night stay to many years of monogamous associations. Very often two people outside of marriage stay monogamous to each other for years making this relations primary to their marriage where sexual intercourse eventually become nonexistence.

Some studies estimated that up to 50% of men and up to 40% of women had extramarital sex. Global Sex Survey states that more than 40% of adults worldwide have had extramarital affairs and other 30% have fantasized about having sex with somebody other than their spouse. Despite numbers being high, they do not reflect real picture as extramarital relationships are still disapproved and judged by society. To protect their privacy, people prefer not to reveal the truth even with the promise to stay anonymous.

According to a study, about 15% of married couples have not had sex with their spouse in six months to one year making many marriages sexless. Only small percentage of these couples identifies themselves as asexual admitting to have a very low sex drive. Majority have to deal with drop of excitement, missing feeling of being desired, and anticipation of intimacy.

Main reason behind this problem is lost of passion in a bedroom which leads to married dating for millions of people. In today's world of internet, online dating through discreet married personal give members an opportunity to stay anonymous until the point they decide to move forward to meeting with their prospect. Also, being "invisible" give people a chance to open and discuss things they will not even consider to talk about with their spouse. Internet has a necessary protection to find this missing component to accomplish style of life they need.
