subject: Working With York Movers [print this page]

If you're moving to a new home this year, you're in good company: MelissaData.com reports that more than 40 million people move to new digs in any given year. Most of those moves tend to take place within the same county of origin. That is, if you live in York and are moving, chances are you're going to be looking for a York moving company because you're going to be moving nearby.

Most people who move will tell you it's not the large items (the couches, the beds, the refrigerators), that make moving such a chore; it's the little things: the silverware, the DVD collection, the pots and pans, the artwork, etc.

So your York movers undoubtedly will tell you that a smart thing to do is to start packing those "little" things first. And you should do so several weeks (at least eight) before moving day

Many York movers recommend that you take your collectibles, your wall decor, brick a brack, dishes you don't need. DVDs, etc. and pack them into boxes by category. For example, wall art goes in one box, your DVDs in another, and so on. Be sure to mark the box with its contents. It's also a smart idea to pack these boxes by item and by room. For example, your living room shouldn't be packed with those that go in your bedroom, and so on.

Pack up as many smaller items as you can and do it as you can. Packing "as you go" is much easier than trying to pack everything in just a few days' time. You'll thank yourself later.

It's a great idea to wash items before packing. Don't pack dirty dishes or silverware; the reason is obvious -- bugs can hatch and mold can grow.

Possibly one of the best things in which to pack your precious items is the tried and true newspaper. Wrap an item in several pages of newspaper and it will be well padded. If you're really worried about breaking, purchase bubble wrap. But newspaper is a very efficient packing material, and very inexpensive!

Once your York movers arrive on moving day, place a cloth tarp on highly traveled areas. This will help keep your carpets clean for your home's new owners/tenants. You also can use the tarps in your new home, so that you won't have dirty carpets once the York moving company van has left after unloading.

If you have pets, you may want to have neighbors watch them on moving day. If possible, take your pets to their new home so that they may explore and sniff around; this should help make their transition to their new home easier.
