Almost everyone looks forward to the summerAlmost everyone looks forward to the summer. It is the time to relax, enjoy and go places. The beach is the all-time favorite destination, it seems like summer is never complete without a trip to the ocean. It is also the time of year when people go to the mall simply to take advantage of the centralized airconditioning.

Summer is also the best time for activities such as biking, rock climbing, and mountain trekking as well as learning a new outdoor skill like rock diving or surfing.

Although fun is practically synonymous to summer, the intense heat of the summer sun brings it with certain hazards which may lead to health-related problems. Below are some summer safety tips to help you enjoy the season and be protected from the sun's harmful rays:

1. Wear sunglasses. With all the fancy styles around, people tend to forget that sunglasses are designed foremost to protect the eyes from the sun's glare and not as a fashion accessory. The sun's UV rays can do a lot of damage to the eyes therefore it is important to consider the kind of lens used on your sunglasses and not just how the frame looks. Choose a pair of shades that provides UV protection and make sure you don't leave it resting on your head when going out the door.

2. Apply lotion on your skin. Because of the heat, having to apply lotion on the skin does not exactly sound like a very good and appealing idea. Although it may be quite uncomfortable it is better than getting sunburned. Keep in mind though that you do not need to be at the beach to apply lotion. Before going out to do an errand, it is better to use a sunscreen most especially during this season. If you love sunbathing, always use a maximum protection cooling lotion with a high SPF level. Remember that too much sun can lead to skin cancer.

3. Drink lots of water. This is essential whatever the season. Keeping oneself well hydrated by drinking pure, clean water is a must. This is especially important during the summer because it also helps even out the temperature allowing you to cool down and not feel too uncomfortable because of the heat.

4. Do not get too caught up in enjoying the season and neglect the possible health consequences of the sun and the heat. As you make your summer memories, make sure you don't compromise your safety and your health. Follow the tips above and have a sizzling healthy summer!
