subject: What Patients Should Know About A Browlift/forehead Lift [print this page]

Some areas of the face are more prone to signs of aging than others including the brow and forehead. As a solution, many people seek the help of a cosmetic surgeon to perform a browlift/forehead lift which is often performed in combination with an eyelid correction. While the brow and forehead can mean a dramatic difference in the appearance of the face, a droopy eyelid can also be a hindrance to your vision.

A browlift (or forehead lift) is usually needed when gravity causes the skin to droop. This procedure not only results in making your entire face look younger but it also loses the tired look that can result from the drooping skin. Drooping brows can be so extensive that they keep the individual from being able to move the eyelid upward when they try to open their eyes fully. Some people have literally taped their eyelids open in order to be able to see where they are going.

The brow lift or forehead lift procedure will raise the eyebrows and also improve the droopy flaps of skin over the outer corners of your eyes so that you can see and will have a more desirable appearance. This surgery will also smooth out the wrinkles and lines than occur on the forehead and between the eyebrows. However, you will need to have the surgery performed on your eyelids to remove the skin that is covering your eyes.

When a surgeon performs the browlift or forehead lift, he/she will maneuver the muscles and skin that are causing wrinkles and lines. During the classic lift, one continuous incision is made from the ear to the hairline area. With an endoscopic lift, a few shorter incisions are made instead of the one longer one. The endoscope is placed inside an incision so that the tissues and muscles can be viewed on a screen. A tool is placed inside another incision that will be used to perform the surgery. The endoscopic lift will require less recovery time in comparison with the classic lift.

You may also choose to have other procedures performed at the same time as the browlift or forehead lift in order to obtain symmetry of your facial features. While insurance doesnt usually cover any of the plastic surgery procedures, some will pay for surgery that serves the purposes of improving your vision.
