Cycling Training - Spinning Classes Vs Home Programs

To take cycle training classes or use a home cycling program... that is the question.

Let's go over the pro's and con's of both to help you decide.

SPINNING CLASSES: PROS

1) You won't be alone in your struggle to maintain your fitness through cycle workouts.

2) There will always be a trained instructor available for you to ask questions or get advice from

3) You won't have to worry about where buy or keep a stationary cycle.

SPINNING CLASSES: CONS

1) Most cycle training classes are held in gyms or fitness studios, which means you'll have to deal with traveling and monthly payments.

2) If you don't like working out in public or are self conscious about your fitness level, cycling in a class setting might not be the option you'd fit best with.

3) As much as I love cycling classes, there is always the element of hygiene to be aware of. I'm not saying you have to worry tremendously, but it's good to be mindful to wipe down your seat and handle bars before and after you use them. Make sure to shower when you're done as well, you never know who used that bike before you.

HOME CYCLE TRAINING: PROS

1) You get the privacy of your own home and a view of any room or window that you like! No worry about crowded classes. Also not being comfortable exercising in public is not an issue because you are in the comfort of your own home.

2) Home cycle training videos are usually VERY affordable and many are even available online if you prefer that option, though they don't always offer the "full class" when they are free.

3) You don't have to have a gym membership or pay for individual classes.

HOME CYCLING TRAINING: CONS

1) There's nothing quiet like having a live instructor available for questions, advise and tips for improvement. Videos just can't offer that as well as classes.

2) It's easier to get bored with a video if you don't buy a few different cycling workouts. It just doesn't work for some, it's hard to stick with it with no one there to push you forward.

3) Paying for a monthly gym members and/or cycle classes has a way of dedicated us to what we already paid for. Buying a tape means we can do it anytime, which can sometimes lead to the opportunity for excuses to put off your cycle workout till "later".
