The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular shaped piece of land that is situated in Southern Australia so it is pretty easy to find when you look on a map. It is framed by areas such as Gawler Ranges situated to the north, Spencer Gulf on the east, and the Great Australian Bight situated to the west. The area has a few towns spread around but does not have too big a population however it is an area which has seen more tourists visiting it in recent times.
There are quite a few national and conservation parks in the peninsula and this is among the main reasons why tourists are coming here. These parks let you explore a relatively untouched part of the country and it lets you see lots of the native species in the type of setting that they enjoy most of all.
The national parks do come in several forms as some contain scenery which is much rougher than others with some all about cliffs and dramatic views whilst others are more about quiet rivers and fishing. However you're best to try and pick up general information about each individual park so you know what you are likely to encounter before you even get there.
The peninsula is seen as a excellent place to fish but if it is something more relaxing you're looking for there are a number of beaches in the area but from June to October the seas around there become among the best whale watching spots in the whole of the country. Of course there are other things you are able to do in the region that do not involve the water.
The Eyre Peninsula accommodation is varied and it does cover most types of budgets. It is possible to easily find something which is much more of a surfer, backpacking style hostel to a lot more upmarket hotels where the emphasis is on the comfort. It's best to look at the various main towns in the peninsula so you get the largest variety possible and even then the prices are reasonable.
The entire peninsula has really built itself on agriculture and mining in particular for precious stones for example jade so you are going to get a lot of greenery in the interior of the area. It is quite a dry area, as is much of Australia, so do keep an eye out for potential bushfires as they can be deadly so extra care has to be taken.
The area does contain different museums which help to tell the story of the region right from when it was first really discovered back in 1801. It tells you how it became an area known for its agriculture and mining and it does really help you to see how it got to the place it currently is today.
A holiday to this part of the country is not going to be all action and fast paced but instead you are likely to have something much slower where relaxing on a beach or a quiet walk will be the order of the day. It is very family friendly and is a safe part of the country so you don't have any worries in that regard if you are a parent.
