Grease originally premiered on Broadway in June 1972 at the Broadhurst Theatre, after which it moved to the Royale Theatre and finally to the Majestic Theatre. During the show's run, many famous names stepped into the shoes of Danny, Sandy D and Betty Rizzo. Peter Gallagher, Patrick Swayze, John Travolta and Richard Gere all appeared on the Broadway stage, with Gere ultimately moving to star in the London production, which opened a year later. Grease remains Broadway's longest running show and its popularity even spurred a revival in 1994 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. The current U.S. tour, which is coming through Wallingford, began on Dec. 2, 2008 and will run through the end of 2009.

Grease takes spectators on a blast to the past - 1959 to be exact - to the fictional Rydell High School, where its students are busy filling their days with talk of hot rod cars, drive-in movie theaters and long lost loves of summer. The plot revolves around hot shot kid Danny Zuko and his romantic interest Sandy Dumbrowski .

When Sandy is suddenly transferred to Rydell High, she and Danny are reunited after their summer-long teen love affair. While Sandy is busy musing to the Pink Ladies about the emotional attachment she shared with Danny, he is busy bragging about the physical aspects of their relationship to the boys. Their differing recounts of the romantic fling are represented in the popular duet "Summer Nights." The girls gossip about their love interests and experiment with cigarettes and wine, while the boys spend their time discussing cool cars.

Even though Sandy is troubled that Danny seems to be ignoring her true feelings, Sandy can't help but feel that strong attachment and expresses these thoughts in the tune "Hopelessly Devoted to You." The rough and wild Danny ultimately realizes his errors and tries to patch things up with Sandy, but she warns against him "moving too fast."

In the end, as the kids confront issues of love, heartbreak and pregnancy, Sandy realizes what she needs to do to fit in with the students at Rydell. At the finale, Sandy packs away her cutesy and conservative skirt and sweater and opts for a body-hugging black leather pantsuit, which officially turns her into a "greaser girl." She and Danny perform the song "You're the One that I Want," and afterward the cast joins together for a reprise of "We Go Together."

The stage musical was ultimately turned into a film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, however for many Grease fans seeing this show live onstage is a truly unforgettable experience. Get tickets today.
