Palazzo Antinori - Florence

When You book a guided tour in Florence, with us You'll realize how beautiful and magic this town is.

Palazzo Antinori, considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance palaces in Florence, is located in the square with the same name at one end of Via de 'Tornabuoni. It was built between 1461 and 1469 perhaps by Giuliano da Maiano (given the similarities with the Siena Palazzo Spannocchi) for Giovanni diBono Boni (second half of the fifteenth century), on some houses that belonged to the Bordoni. The unfinished building was sold by Boni due to financialproblems in 1475 and passed to the family of Martelli, but apparently Lorenzo the Magnificent was also interested in it. There lived two brothers Carlo and

Ugolino Martelli, but at the death of Ugolino (1494) Charles decided to sell the building, perhaps for sentimental reasons related to the memory of hisbrother, perhaps for economic reasons.

In 1506 the building passed to Niccol Antinori, already resident in Oltrarno, who made changes and improvements. Since then, the Antinori family stilllives in the building and owns land in Tuscany where it produces the famous wines and vin santo and olive oil and other products. Wine production is veryold, also praised by Francesco Redi, and sale of wine is still witnessed by a small open window on the alley Trebbio: from this small opening the bottleswere sold. In the frame of the window there is still written "Wine".
