After weighing the choices between shopping for a brand new surround system with speakers, and shopping for a far better receiver and keeping the speakers I've already got, I opted for this Onkyo TX-SR608 to switch the tired Onkyo receiver I've had for thirteen years. i'm terribly proud of that call. I noted that another reviewers commented how this receiver brought their previous speakers to life once more, and that i will attest having a similar expertise.
Got the unit in 2 days through my Amazon Prime account. It took me regarding 3 hours to line it up, however that included untangling the previous snake pit of wires behind my media cupboard. the nice factor is that everything connected to my Vizio PD50 monitor is currently channelled through one HDMI cable. This includes my DirecTV HD DVR, Sony DVD player, Digital Stream HD tuner, and my Apple TV. My Wii, and Xbox are connected through analog and composite connections respectively since they do not have HDMI, and currently I still have one HDMI port left open on the rear, and one on the front. the image is flawless on all devices.
Audyssey 2EQ got wind of the speakers flawlessly and that they sound nice. whereas the Onkyo remote is healthier than previous Onkyo remotes that I've seen, it works even higher with my Harmony 880. Also, I've browse reviews of alternative Onkyo receivers over the past few years that complained regarding the quantity of warmth they generated. I've got the TX-SR608 in an indoor cupboard with a glass fronted door, and therefore the back partially open. It generates little heat, in fact, but the unit it replaced.
It's nice to advocate a decent product that performs on top of expectations. i might advocate this unit to anyone craving for a decent mid-range receiver with plenty options for a good value.
