A group or entity that is planning a fundraising event can encounter many important, tough decisions such as "What product do we sell?", "How many items of this product do we need to sell to reach our fundraising goal?", "Is this a product or company we are comfortable beingco-branded with?", and most importantly, "Does this product have value to those who are purchasing it? the end users.
Let's face it. Everyone has had that cute little kid show up at their front door selling wrapping paper or a similar product for $10 or more as a fundraiser. You either hide in the house pretending to not be home or you begrudgingly hand over your $10 bill knowing full well that a similar product could have been purchased at the local discount store for around $1 or $2. Is this fundraising or highway robbery?
I thought the idea of a fundraiser was supposed to be a mutually beneficial relationship in both spirit, and at least a little in monetary value as far as the product goes. The challenges of having a successful fundraiser in these tough economic times are often compounded by offering a product of very little perceived value for top end retail prices. This type of set up doesn't really benefit everyone and unfortunately benefits the manufacturer of the product most.
