In 2009, TNS conducted a research on Gaming' in 6 different countries over the world. The research examined various topics such as how long and how many people game. What kind of platforms gamers use. What kind of genre they like. And the usage of other media compared to gaming. Countries where the research occurred are Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, United Kingdom and the United States.
In this article we compare three neighbouring countries, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Gaming in Belgium
67% of the Belgium population plays games with an average of 5.4 hours per week. Outliers are boys between the 8 and 19 years old, 88% play games with an average between 7 and 8 hours a week. Also striking are 50+ females, 53% plays games with an average of 5,3 hours per week.
Gaming Netherlands
70% of the Netherlands population plays games with an average of 4.1 hours per week. Marked are boys between 8 and 19 years old, 95-98% plays games with an average between 6 and 10 hours. The girls in this age group have also a high rate of playing games, with more than 80%. But the average time they spend on gaming is a lot lower than boys, with 3.9 hours. After the age of 34 still more than around 50% games, but the hours they spend are less and around 3 hours per week.
Gaming in Germany
65% of the German population plays games with an average of 4,6 hours per week. Striking are boys between 13 and 19 years old, 91% games with an average of 10,1 hours. 50+ males are gaming the least with 2,5 hours per week, only 37% of the 50+ males games.
So? In the Netherlands people game the most with 70%, but with the lowest average playtime per week with 4.1 hours. The Belgians have a playtime of 5.4 hours per week but 67% of the population is gaming. In all the countries above, boys between 8 and 19 are striking; they game the longest and have the highest percentage of players.
Most popular games Casino games are being played by 10% of all the gamers according to new figures of the gaming survey that has been held in 2010. A big growth was reported by casino operators this year. Online craps is one of the most popular ones.
