Wasini Island lies off the southern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya next to Shimoni, approximately 80 Km south from Mombassa. It is 8km long and 3km across. There are 3 villages on the Island. There are no cars or big roads. The island is next to the "Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park". A site of early Swahili civilization, its attractions include exposed coral reefs. The coral island is occupied by the Swahili- Muslim people. On the island local women group have established wasini island nature walk in the beautiful coral garden of Wasini.
Kisite MpungutiPark and Reserve are a paradise for marine life, water birds, boaters, snorkellers and divers alike. The water is refreshingly and extraordinarily clear. Kisite also has a fantastic variety of fishes and coral. Snorkeling is done off the fringing reef of a large rocky islet and a wonderful sand bar, which appears out of the blue ocean at low tide. In the park not fare from the sand band there are exciting diving point :
Inner Kisite: The shallower end of Outer Kisite maximum 8 meters. A great spot for beginners and refreshing divers. A good chance to spot turtles, crocodile fish and trigger fish.
Coral Garden/Pink Reef: Diving at 8 to15 meters. Known for the pink variety of soft coral. Also hosts a big variety of tropical fish.
Dolphin Point: Diving at 3 to 12 meters. This dive site owes its name to the playful dolphins. Many divers are lucky enough to spend their time here with them.
Mpunguti reserve island and less popular than Kisite sand band, but they are the habitat of the rare coconut crabs. there are 2 island in the Mpunguti reserve. on the upper one you can see the light tower. in the lower one there is magnificent romantic sand beach. Sometimes the green turtle visit the island, and you can put your tenet on it and look at the sunset and enjoy the stars.
On the east side of Wasini Island there is the SEA ISLAND. Out of the tourist attraction lays, one of the must magical places. mangrove trees inside the ocean with magic atmosphere, where local fisherman sometimes fish. in the low tied there is secret sunday beach in the meddle of the mangrove forest.
