subject: Thousands Lost By Missing National Lottery Results [print this page]

Every week millions of people across the UK wait anxiously to hear the National Lottery results. It has become something of a national tradition - countless people up and down the land united by hope and fear. Hope that today is the day when their lives change forever; fear that the time their numbers do come up is the one time they miss the draw.

This happens more often than most people might think. In total almost 300 million pounds has been left unclaimed. For the most part it is mainly small fry - a tenner here or there. However there are some quite large scoops still awaiting a winner. For example, since November there remains a prize of over a hundred thousand left without a winner. Even the major jackpot has gone for a long time without being claimed in the past. In Israel a couple finally claimed the main jackpot after a four month delay. The reason - they had left the slip amongst some disused documents.

In March of this year one unlucky player paid a devastating price for missing the National Lottery results. A prize that had remained unclaimed of more than 3.6 million pounds finally reached the 180 claim deadline without a winner coming forward. The cash instead is sent off to the charity fund proving that someone's loss is another's gain.

Not much is known about the winner. All we know is that the ticket was purchased somewhere in Inverness. Why the winner failed to materialize who can say? It's probable that they don't even know themselves that they've missed the chance to scoop millions.

That someone could miss the National Lottery results seems absurd in this day and age. However, as this story shows it can be done all too easily.

There are now more ways than ever to check the numbers. You can go online, have updates sent to your phone - all combined to make it seemingly impossible, whatever you're doing - that your numbers can come up without your knowledge.

So what's the moral of this story, if there is one? Well, put simply, it's this: if you play then you should always take time out to check the National Lottery results. Of course the chances that you'll actually scoop the main jackpot are somewhere akin to finding life on Mars, but who knows. You've got to be in it to win it they say, so at the very least make sure you know when your numbers do come up.
