subject: Metabolism And Weight Loss [print this page]

The key to weight loss is finding what works for you and then staying motivated, focused and sticking to it. Yo-yo dieting is particularly dangerous and ineffective, because it decreases your metabolism, leading to an immediate weight gain once the caloric restrictions are eased and you return to normal eating.

Remember that weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight is a lifetime commitment. Crash dieting and Fad diets are an extremely dangerous way to go about losing weight, and can lead to serious health problems.

Weight loss is not only about losing pounds but it is also about burning fat. Weight loss is not about your fat and current weight on the scales, it's about your life, how you live it, good and bad habits and how much we consume.

Sugar

Sugar, fat and salt are very addictive, which is why it is so hard to stop after just one potato chip or one cookie. Sugar is stored in muscles and your liver. Cook with spices as they help speed up the metabolism and they add great flavor to meals without adding calories.

Obesity is caused by diets full of fatty foods and simple carbohydrates (such as sugars), which are foods with low nutritional value and high calorie content. Select foods on a daily basis without added fat or sugar.Ensure when you buy low fat foods that you check out the sugar content in these low fat foods. If it is low in fat and high in sugar, this is not good for weight loss.

Table sugar on the other hand does not contain any necessary nutrients like vitamins or minerals and is generally considered an "empty calorie" because of that. Generally, the sugar content of your diet should be less than 10% of total calories. Remove all high calorie, high fat, high sugar foods from your kitchen cabinets, refrigerator and freezer.

Meals

Change your food choices at meals from day to day to achieve a balanced diet. Variety helps to stimulate your metabolism and also helps avoid weight plateaus.

Metabolism

Metabolism is a chemical process that occurs in the human body to maintain life. If you starve yourself, your metabolism slows down and decreases the level of leptin, a hormone produced in the fat cells that is key to appetite control.

The rate at which your body burns calories is known as your metabolism.Your metabolism will slow down if you deprive it too much. Ensure that you eat three sensible meals a day to keep your metabolism moving.
