Luneta Park or Rizal Park is one of the historic destinations in the Philippines. It was named following the French language word "Lunette" that means half moon mainly because Luneta Park seemed like a half moon land even at this time. It has been set up during the Colonial Regime for the objective of some festivals and sometimes conducting a mass for the purpose of the people. The site grew to be historic through Spanish Era when our national hero Doctor. Jose Rizal was executed last December 30, 1896. If we are going to our past, prior to his execution, Doctor. Jose Rizal hand his composition namely "Mi Ultimo Adios" which means "My Last Goodbye" or others may translate it to "My Last Farewell". After that, he went on a march toward the death and died by a gunshot with a legendary remark. Bear in mind he turned around in order to face the riflemen being symbol of his loyalty to his country and countrymen. Although this incident took place more than centuries ago, I'm hoping that the legendary event is still within the heart of each and every People from the Philippines.
Today, Luneta Park became a visitor destinations area for many who like to chill out throughout breaks as well as other historians who want to experience an important historic location. I was able to visit this site for the first time was last 2004 due to the Human Rainbow activity.
During our first stop by, I were able to witness the good thing about the spot as the sun shines and lights up the Philippine Stone Map Man Made Pond, the Chinese Garden, and also the Flower Clock. I also saw the relic from the past, the Stone Tablet in which Mi Ultimo Adios was engraved. Just after couple of hours of witnessing the beauty of the area, We, along with my friends along with other PUP students created the World's Greatest Human Rainbow in which broke the Guinness Records of Malta Archipelago and Hongkong Polytechnic University and you can visit gohunt.ph for more info.
Before, our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal passed on on this location making the history of change towards freedom. In our current moment, this place was used to perform the World's Largest Human Rainbow last 2004 to show the unity of each and every Filipino people. As I recall, Doctor. Jose Rizal said "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan", today the Human Rainbow was built to inspire every individual to help each other and work together.
We can point out this area is the place historic events happened and current functions are being held. These kinds of events absolutely display that Luneta Park is our Legacy of the Past, a Gift of the Present, and the Hope of the Future.
