You have just about every social networking site there is and you know every trick in the book to get followers, but you still can't make a real business connection to make things happen.

Jack Dorsey approached Odeo, a directory and search destination website for RSS syndicated audio & video. It used to contain tools that enabled users to create, record, and share podcasts with a simple Adobe Flash-based interface, who at the time happened to be interested in text messaging.
With an investment from Evan Williams (born March 31, 1972) an American entrepreneur who has founded several Internet companies,including Pyra Labs (creator of weblog-authoring software Blogger) and Twitter, of which he is currently CEO; twitter was born.
You don't know JACK, if you have not yet learned from Jack Dorsey, twitter's creator. Jack did not send an email to Odeo or text Evan for money to buy into his dream.
Jack made a real live connection to people interested in what he had to say. Say is the key word. If you are not talking to people you are not networking, social or otherwise.
People only buy from emails and ads of stores that have roots in their community and not from 140 characters of text. The moment you open you mouth and really begin to network with people you will see a whole world open up to you.
Also, Jack did not do this alone. He was willing to share the wealth and by doing so, Jack is now able to live his dream not tweet about it. In the words of a famous speaker, the name escapes me now, he said something like his, "Equity is like sh#@. It's just a big smelly pile until you spread it around and then and only then it smells good spreaded out.
In short, without that human communication, like complete nurishment, you'll remain in that world of followers, like empty calories.
