Runners High Can Be Beneficial To You

One doesn't go through life without hearing about a runners high. The thing is, it's not just runners but other sports have at times have the same feelings. Much research has been documented exactly what is a runner's high is and what one must do to get there. I'll give some examples of my own throughout this article.

Wikipedia: Endorphins are endogenous opioid peptides that function as neuron transmitters. They are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during exercise, excitement, pain, consumption of spicy food, orgasm and they resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a feeling of well being.

The term endorphin rush has been adopted in popular speech to refer to a feelings of exhilaration brought on by running, danger or other forms of stress supposedly due to the influence of endorphins. You can't really bring it on at will, more so the runners high just happens. Understand this; if you concentrate to bring it on you can't make it happen either.

My best description is when your zinging along about mile two, to mile four on a five mile run. Running is all about rhythm, smoothness and being graceful as a deer. Even the veteran runners in the first mile or two can be a little uncomfortable. This is because you've went from a sedentary state all dayinto a mobile one with your running shoes on. Try to picture your legs as wheels on a car rolling along. If you see a runner carrying their hands very high they most likely haven't been running very long.

The lower you can carry your hands and being as relaxed as possible will help you to experience a runner's high. I never could run with music in my ears. Many do! A headset causes mant to lose concentration and the rhythm of their running form. Each year that passes, you'll be running your strides with a more natural gate. You'll see this in racing while the newer runners to the sport will almost run two strides to your one. Running is a life time sport that can be started at any age.

There you have it! Try my guide lines and you'll be getting a runner's high before you know it! If you ask a dozen runners what is a runner's high is or can they describe one, you'll get a dozen different answers. There's no right or wrong answer here.

Go running in the morning before your brain figures out what you're doing! Just kidding! I've been a runner for over two decades. Runnng is just another part of life. Like brushing your teeth or putting your shoes on. Running becomes a good habit to get use to. Your spouse will love you more for your new hobby!
