A Little Coffee

Coffee is among the top five most popular drinks in the United States. It's a brewed drink that is served in a multitude of ways that we will explore in later articles. Coffee is prepared from roasted seeds, better known as coffee beans. Believe it or not these seeds (beans) of coffee cherries that grow om some 70 countries, but mostly in, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa. These are the better known and largest producers. Because of its demand, unroasted coffee is pm pf the most traded commodities in the world.

We all know this one, due to its "caffeine" content , coffee often has a stimulating effect on humans. It effect people differently and some like myself not at all really. I can drink a pot and be asleep in 5 minutes. I have some associates I wish I could convince them to drink a few more cups a day. Traditionally, coffee is consumed alongside (haha or instead of ) breakfast by most people. And for some its served at the end of the evening meal. Normally this is so in restaurants or a dinner party.

Coffee, believe it or not, even had its period of prohibition. Granted they were in the 15th and 16th century's and for spiritual reasons. I'm not the expert here, but the only modern day example of this thinking I know of is found in " The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". Its was explained to me once that they hold that it is physically and well as spiritually unhealthy to consume coffee. It's claimed to be in the Mormon Doctrine.

Another interesting tidbit on coffee is that the "Oromo people" use the plant (coffee tree) to plant on the graves of the deceased powerful sorcerers. They believed that the first coffee bush sprang up from the tears that the god of heaven shed over a dead sorcerer. Nonetheless, its interesting how society looks upon something that to you and I is really, simply, a beverage we like.

What ever the history of coffee is , its here to say in main stream USA and around the world. Its served in so many different ways and we will talk about those in later articles.
