subject: Online Movie Rentals Vs Renting From A Store- What Are The Benefits? [print this page]

The internet has had a big impact on many industries. Online movie rentals are just one example of this.

The emergence of the various sites that offer online movie rentals has certainly chipped away at the popularity of the traditional brick and mortar DVD rental facility. Yet, there are those that still prefer to shop from the brick and mortar rental shops.

What are the benefits of online movie rentals versus renting from a store? The cost effectiveness of online movie rentals is fairly obvious. For a flat monthly fee, you can rent scores of DVDs per month. With a traditional rental shop, you must pay a fee per individual DVD which will certainly cost you more money.

Most companies work on 3 basic plans where you can rent 1, 2 or 3 movies at a time for a flat monthly fee usually around $8.99, $13.99 or $16.99. So you can hold 1, 2 or 3 movies at any one time. If you finish one movie, and want another, you must return one to get the next one.

It is also convenient to rent online from the comfort of your own home. The DVDs are mailed direct to your home along with a self-addressed stamped envelope in which you can return the DVD. Which makes the return process quick and easy.

This eliminates all the time and travel associated with renting at a video store. There is no need to waste time in traffic or standing in long lines. All of these problems are eliminated with online movie rentals.

When you rent online, the DVD is shipped from a warehouse which means that it is less likely to be out of stock since the warehouse stocks many copies. This is not the case when you visit a bricks and mortar store where "out of stock" rentals are more common. These stores only have so much storage space.

You can also watch movie you rent online instantly. You can do this by streaming (downloading) the movie to an internet ready device such as a PC, Xbox or Playstation. Watching the movie on your TV is also made possible with a special type of converter available at an extra cost.

These are just some of the reasons to rent online. There are also others. This really depends on the things that you like to watch. Some services offer more of your favourite things to watch than others. You can also rent on Blu Ray and some services offer game rentals too.

If you still want to rent and return in store too, this is possible with a Blockbuster membership. They still have their bricks and mortar stores as well as their online stores.
