The Steelers are tied for the lead in their conference, AFC North division. The Baltimore Ravens are sharing a lead with both teams having a record of 10-4. The Steelers have already at least clinched a Wild Card spot for the playoffs and with wins over their next 2 games between the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns they could possibly win the division title. A lot is riding on the Baltimore Ravens performance down the stretch as well. The Ravens are playing the Browns and Cincinnatti in their final two games of the season.
The Steelers have a couple key players that are nursing injuries. They status is a little uncertain for tight end Heath Miller and Troy Polamalu. Miller is supposedly due back for tonights game against the Panthers after being out for two weeks with post concussion symptoms. Troy Polamalu will not be back until the postseason, hopefully. He is dealing with a strained achilles heel. In order for the Steelers to really contend for the Super Bowl this year they will need his presence on the field to strengthen their defense.
Polamalu is having his best defensive year of his career possibly. Over the past 2 years with him healthy and playing the Steelers are sporting a record of 14-4, allowing on 14 points per game, and forcing turnovers at a rate of 41 times. When he has been absent over these two years the Steelers clearly struggle. There record while he has been out is 5-7, they give up 23 points, and only producing 11 turnovers.
