subject: Learn The Easy Way Of Installing A New Faucet [print this page] Installing a new faucet is not very difficult to do and can be carried by a homeowner with little knowledge of plumbing. Some tools required to perform this task are a pair of large channel lock pliers and a crescent wrench. For this installation a homeowner needs to spend one to two hours of his day.
First of all you need to stop the water supply to the faucet by turning off the main supply valve that is usually installed under the sink only. Ensure that water is not flowing to the faucet by turning on the faucet.
Next disconnect the flexible supply lines from the valves attached to the hot and cold supply pipes. After disconnecting the flexible supply lines, remove the old faucet mounting nuts that secure the faucet to the sink. Now remove the mounting nut that holds the stopper pull rod and stopper drain bracket assembly to the drain tail pipe.
Then remove the J-Trap drain assembly from the sink tail pipe. The faucet should now be able to be lifted from the sink. With the old faucet removed, clean around the sink area using a rag and putty knife.
After this you need to have a replacement faucet that has same spacing between the hot and cold threaded tail pieces like your old faucet. You can get it from any of the nearby home improvement store. Also buy two flexible replacement supply lines along with it.
After this, you need to connect the new flexible supply lines to the threaded tail pieces of your new faucet. Now install the new faucet into the mounting holes on your sink and then secure the faucet to the sink using the mounting plates or nuts that came with the new faucet.
Connect the other end of the flexible supply lines to the hot and cold supply valves on the pipes and connect the new tail pipe to the sink drain. Now you need to install the new Drain/Stopper assembly that came along with the new faucet.
At last, you need to connect back the J-Trap drain assembly to the drain tail pipe. Now start the water by turning on the valves and also turn the new faucet on to check it against any kind of leaks around all the compression fittings. In case of leaks, turn off the water supply and tight all the leaky fitting nuts. Then again start the water supply and check that the leaks are repaired.
