subject: Get Your Power From The Source [print this page] As spring time has arrived I've had the pleasure of watching some people outside enjoying the nice weather by flying kites. I always love the time of year when winter turns to spring, and seeing kites in the sky reminds me of a story that I used with children during my days as a teacher and a missionary. The story was about a kite that desired to fly through the air like a jet. He tried very hard to be like a jet, but he simply didn't have the right source of power.
In many ways we all have some things in common with the kite in that story. We want to do or accomplish things that seem to demand more power than we have. I'm sure we've all had days where we simply had so much to do that we didn't know how we were going to get through it. On these days we just feel like we simply don't have the power to get through it.
It's not always a physical tiredness or lack of strength. In fact, most of us face mental and emotional challenges on a much more frequent basis than physical challenges. Regardless of how we feel about our strength and the ability to make it through the day. God tells us that He has the strength and that He can provide it to us. The Bible says this:
Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)-"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."
In Romans chapter 8 we read that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we pray, because we don't always know what we should be praying for.
II Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)-"But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why for Christ's sake I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Isn't that incredible? What ever challenges you are facing, you can pray to God and ask for His power to help you through it. All of that power is available to you and to me. That's amazing! Just recognize your own human limitations and look to Him for help.
Father, throughout my life I've come to be thankful for my own limitations and weaknesses because it leads me to depend on you rather than trying to do things myself. Thank you for providing strength for me.
