Newquay In Top Ten of British Seaside Resorts

Newquay

According to a survey by consumer organisation Which? Newquay is the UK's sixth favourite seaside town! and it is the top resort in Devon and Cornwall beating Torquay who were in seventh place and St Ives who were in eighth.

Which? carried out random face-to-face interviews with adults across the UK and more than 4.000 people took part in the poll. To vote the people taking part had to have visited a UK resort within the previous five years. They were asked what was their all-time favourite seaside place and why. The people taking part named more than 150 different destinations as their favourite places.

Councillor Lynda Cherry, chairman of Newquay Town Council's tourism and leisure committee, accepted the Which? certificate on behalf of the town. She said "There is a true passion among Newquay businesses to offer a first-class visitor experience and being listed in the top ten seaside towns by visitors themselves shows that we are succeeding in our aim. This recognition should be cherished by local residents and businesses and I hope that it is the start of good things to come for Newquay"

Martin Brooks, chairman of the Cornwall Development Company, which runs the VisitCornwall tourism website said "Newquay is a jewel in Cornwall's crown and recognition in such a well-respected surver is very high, yet well deserved praise"

It is thought that both Newquay and St Ives in Cornwall have a wide appeal to visitors as they have something of interest for people of all ages. Newquay manages to combine the new with the traditional and this could be what made for greatmemories to its visitors.
