Adapted from a screenplay he first wrote over a half-century ago, Oliveira's new film is a magical tale of an impossible love. Late one night, a young photographer named Isaac (Ricardo Trpa, the director's grandson and frequent collaborator), is summoned by a wealthy family to take the last portrait of their daughter, Angelica (Pilar Lpez de Ayala/In the City of Sylvia), a beautiful new bride who has mysteriously passed away. Arriving at their estate, Isaac is struck by Angelica's beauty, but when he looks through his lens, the young woman appears to come to life. From that moment, Isaac will be haunted by Angelica day and night.

Its strange and exquisite beauty mirrors that of the film for which it provides a backbone, and in its own way, seems like a sort of poetic synopsis, expressing the film's themes even as its characters utter it.
His second film to be released this year after Eccentricities of a Blonde-Haired Girl, The Strange Case of Angelica serves as a kind of spiritual companion piece to that film, sharing not only similar themes of forbidden love but also its lovelorn protagonist, in the form of de Oliveira's grandson, Ricardo Trpa. Here he plays Isaac, a photographer who is summoned to the estate of a wealthy family to take the final photographs of their lovely young daughter, Angelica (Pilar Lpez de Ayala), who tragically passed away in the night.
