subject: Are There Mines Where You Live? [print this page]

Does your town run off of the jobs from a mine? This happens in more towns than most of you know. The reason you might not know about a lot of them is that they do not have a lot of accidents involved with the running of them. Most of you will only find out that a mine is in a state or town when something bad happens. There are so many old and abandoned mines in this country and around the world and most of you do not even know they are there. It could be down your street or across town. Most of them are completely sealed off but with all of your towns growing these old mines are getting closer.

If you happen to be a home builder or just someone that might want to know where these mines are you can go to your local county clerk and ask to look in the book of deeds. This information is there for anyone to look at. Some of this information will really surprise you. Some of these shafts can run down several thousands of miles. With some of them being only a few feet away. If your town is built around this mine these shafts could run all the way through it. We try to not let this happen but sometimes it can. This is why it is so important to know where these old mines are.

There are always ways for these old mines or shafts to become problems. We need to make sure that if these mines are around you to have the emergency crews in place. If you have these crews there they will be able to do what will need to be done if there is an accident. You really do not want to be too close to one of these but if you are this crew will be able to do the things that will need to be done. They will do everything possible to make sure you come out of this situation. This crew will have to be keep on call all of the time as this could happen at any time.

It is up to us and our government to make sure that all of these mines that are still in use are safe and we know where the old abandon one are. The ones that are no longer in use need to be completely destroyed including the old shafts since they will no longer be used. There is no reason for them to still be open as nothing good could come out of them ever again.
