subject: Things To Do On A Tutor Saliba Island Vacation [print this page]

The island of Tutor Saliba is located in the Indian Ocean, not far from the island of Diego Garcia. Although it's not very well-known, the island's main industry comes from its tourism department. Visitors to the island have only one choice in where to stay, but the resort does its best to make visits memorable. Some things to do on the island include snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing and relaxing on the beach or in the resort's spa.

Snorkeling And Scuba Diving

Unlike nearby Diego Garcia, scuba diving is allowed off the waters of Tutor Saliba. Scuba divers can expect to encounter ocean creatures such as bonefish, sea turtles, sea stars and plenty of anemones. Sharks have been known to explore the waters, but there have been no reports of shark attacks near the island in a number of years. Snorkeling is more common than scuba diving, because of the clear water and plentiful sea life just below the ocean's surface.

The island's resort offers free lessons in both scuba diving and snorkeling, even for beginners. Guests can bring their own equipment or borrow it from the resort's shop. Since the resort is all-inclusive, there is no charge for lessons or equipment rental.

Windsurfing

If you're feeling a little more adventurous, windsurfing is another popular activity on Tutor Saliba Island. The sport takes a traditional surfboard, attaches a sail and lets participants ride the waves towards the island. Although the sport can be a little complicated, the island's resort staff is fully qualified to teach beginning windsurfing to guests.

Relaxing On The Beach Or In The Spa

After trying scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing, most of the visitors to Tutor Saliba are ready for a little relaxation. The beach has plenty of cabanas for guests who need a reprieve from the sun and the resort's 'bar to beach' service means that guests can always count on having a refreshing cocktail on hand. Food from the resort's bar can vary from traditional pub fare like burgers, sandwiches and fish and chips to more sophisticated meals featuring local ingredients and freshly caught seafood. The menus change day to day and depend on what local fisherman find in the Indian Ocean.

Another popular resort destination is the spa. There, guests can get everything from massages, to manicures and pedicures, to facials. The sea salt scrub massage uses sea salt taken locally from the Indian Ocean and is one of the spa's most popular treatments.

As with everything on the Tutor Saliba resort, spa treatments are included in the cost of the trip. However, modest tips are encouraged for all services. For instance, a trip for cabana delivery for food and drinks should be $0.50-$1 per item delivered. Spa treatment tips can vary from $3-$4 for a manicure up to $10-$15 for an hour long massage.

Although the island isn't very well-known, visitors who do discover this tropical paradise report being wowed by the local beauty and exceptional service provided by the resort.
