subject: The Five Sweetest Free Mp3 Cd Players For Windows [print this page]

Take a second out of your day and think back to sometime around the early nineties. Right Said Fred was on the radio, George HW Bush was in office and U2 was the hottest new thing in music. Remember your living room, if you will. You had a sound system that took up half the floorspace, and speakers that took up the other half. Your friend comes over and says "You know, one of these days, Apple is going to invent a miniature computer that can fit all of this technology into something the size of a credit card, and it'll only cost about a hundred bucks". Having just taken out a second mortgage to afford all this junk, you probably called your friend a liar and tossed him out of your home. Well, thanks to the iPhone and mp3 cd players, it looks like you owe that guy an apology.

The fact is, the hardware in your computer is probably more capable of playing music at full quality than the CD player in your car is, and it's more convenient, too... If you get the right program to play your music like you like it, that is.

So without further adieu, here are five of the hottest MP3 CD players...

VLC Media Player

VLC Media player is maybe the very best one out there when it comes to versatility. There really isn't any media file type it can't play? CDs? You bet. MP3, wav, aiff? Of course. MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI and even DVDs? Pfft, it'll do that standing on its head. Give it half a chance and it'll make a stage play out of a word document. One of the most popular, and for good reason. Can be used on just about any OS, and it's entirely free.

Mediajukebox

What makes Media Jukebox so awesome is the simple fact that it's not only a capable media player, compatible with pretty much every file type and OS, it's also a great organization system for those of us who are kind of sloppy or lazy about keeping all of our files in one place. No more using the search function of your computer to find whatever you forgot to put in the music folder. Media Jukebox is like a personal maid for your media files.

The Songbird

The cool thing about Songbird is that it is incredibly customizable. Probably the most customizable media player out there. You can swap skins to your heart's content, of course, but you can also pretty much design it from the ground up to your liking, including the file organizer, play list settings, everything. Just make sure you have plenty of time on your hands before downloading, because it does carry the fiddler germ.

Winamp

Winamp is the old standard. It's not fancy, but it's probably the most reliable and versatile media player out there. You can download it for free, and there are versions for other operating systems besides Windows. If you just need something to play your music and videos already, use Winamp.

K M Player

It's a wonder this one hasn't caught on yet. The KM Player is probably the coolest and most multipurpose MP3 player available right now. It can play DVDs, all sorts of music files, CDs, videos files, pretty much everything, all in multiple languages, with various skin and customization options, for every major operating system, and for movie buffs, there's even a subtitle option for your Netflix dowloads. Definitely one to try out, as it might just become your new favorite.
